You can never tell about a contest…

I was taken aback by the finalists list for the CIRA ShowUsYourCa contest.

Sadly, my video did not make the cut.   In truth, having watched all of the videos, I didn’t really expect to win the contest, because my film was not the best. There was one clear winner.   One I knew that I had no hope of beating. Because it was such a good film, very well made, with a story really well told.   And the message was unbeatable.

That was this one, the entry made by Out There Somewhere:

The other one to beat was:

You Like

Frankly, I’m somewhat shocked to see what did make the finalists list. Really. You can see them all here:

Easily the best finalist is dringdring, since it is a good film that does a good job of fulfilling the criteria.

Sadly, a dringdring win is not a given because the final cut will be made by open voting.

This means the winners won’t be chosen on merit. Rather it’s down to how many friends the finalists can round up to cast votes for them… over and over again.

I guess before investing any effort in any contest it would be a good idea to have a thorough understanding of what the point of it is, and how it will be conducted.

Oh well.   Older.   Wiser.

Laura and I just read your blog post from here in Turkey. Thank you so much for the kind words! Your sentiment brought a tear to both of our eyes as I was reading it out loud. We were disappointed about the contest, but knowing somebody appreciated what we did was prize enough. Thank you sincerely!
